
Creating an Account
Prospective users can make a Free for Teacher account that allows them to access Canvas and create courses to suit their needs.
Users can register personal accounts to create courses.

Click the Need a Canvas Account? link.

Click the I'm a Teacher button.

To sign up for a free Canvas account, enter your name and email address.

Confirm you agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, click the You agree to the terms of use and acknowledge the privacy policy checkbox.

Confirm your registration by clicking the Start Teaching button.

Click the Get Started button.

To finish registering for Canvas, verify your email.​
Create a Personal Account
If you are using Canvas through your institution, you will most likely already have an account and need to accept a course invitation. Your institution will email your login information. If you do not yet have an account, you can create an account when you accept the course invitation.

Enter your email and password.

If you are unable to log in, you may need to locate a separate URL used by your institution. A warning message will display that suggests you may have an account with another institution.

To search for your institution, click the Click here to find it link.​ ​Enter the name of your institution.
​

Select the name of your institution when it displays in the list of search results.
​

If you do not have a separate institution URL, confirm that you are using the correct email address and password to use on the login page.
Create an account through your institution
Complete the following fields:

Enter the course join code. This code will be emailed to you by your instructor or institution—the email is separate from your email invitation to join the course.

Enter your username and password.
​

Agree to the terms of use by clicking the terms of use checkbox.

Confirm that you are not a robot by completing the Captcha form (if enabled by your institution)

Click the Start Learning button.
