Creating Assignments & Assessments

Wondering if those enrolled are understanding the course content? With a variety of options, Canvas offers different ways to assess learners!

Anchor 1
  • You can give an assignment to just particular students or certain sections. Each student or section can have different due dates. When you create an assignment for specific students or a section, only those students can only view the assignment.

  • When using differentiated assignments with the Gradebook, the assignment appears as a column for all students, but grade cells are grayed out for students who are not part of the section. Grades can be assigned only for students who were given the assignment.

  • On the module index page, if the assignment has been included in a module, the assignment appears only for those to whom it has been assigned.

  • Canvas automatically creates a column in the Gradebook for any graded quizzes & exams you build.

  • A practice quiz and ungraded survey are ungraded and do not appear in the syllabus or Gradebook.

  • SpeedGrader™ allows you to view and grade submissions in one place using a simple point scale or complex rubric.

  • Instructors can also provide feedback to your students with text or media comments. Instructors can also view the date/time of a submission.
